Inauguration of Alumni Housing at an Educational Residence in Israel

On October 20th, the Educational Residence, operated by the Society for Advancement of Education (SAE), inaugurated a new housing space for its alumni – a renovated bus providing support for graduates. The ceremony was attended by the family of police officer and alumna Debbie A. (Class of 2001), whose dedication and commitment to helping others inspired the initiative.

The collaboration with SAE is part of OlamAid’s MHPSS Middle East Project – Trauma Reduction for Vulnerable Groups in Israel, which aims to strengthen mental health and psychosocial well-being for vulnerable communities, including unaccompanied minors, refugees, immigrants, and young people from socio-economic peripheries. The project also provides guidance and MHPSS support to staff at the Educational Residence and three additional SAE educational residences.

The alumni housing supports young graduates in their transition to independent adulthood. The renovated bus, featuring a shaded deck and seating area, provides a safe and welcoming space on campus for those without family support. The inauguration, attended by staff, students, alumni, and Debbie A.’s family, emphasized care, continuity, and community for young adults during a challenging period in their lives.

Educators observed that the project reflects Debbie A.’s spirit of service and her commitment to supporting others. For alumni, the “bus home” offers more than shelter – it provides belonging, reassurance, and connection to a supportive community.

The alumni housing addresses the needs of youth during a critical transitional phase, allowing them to remain on campus and continue accessing SAE’s educational and psychosocial teams. Through its partnership with SAE within the MHPSS Middle East Project, OlamAid continues to support youth, fostering resilience, care, and well-being.
