Last month, a shipment of over 150 units of firefighting equipment was sent from Germany to volunteer fire units in Evia, Attica, and Rhodes in Greece. The delivery, carried out in cooperation with our partner "Deutsche Feuerwehrhilfe", comes at a time when cuts in humanitarian and emergency support are placing additional pressure on local responders. This donation highlights the critical role that contributions from organizations and communities play in maintaining effective aid and emergency operations.
The initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to support communities affected by recurring wildfires in Greece. With reduced funding in the humanitarian sector, local volunteer fire brigades face significant challenges in maintaining adequate equipment and safety standards. Donations like this one are essential to ensure that firefighters can operate safely and effectively. The delivery was made possible through collaboration with “Deutsche Feuerwehrhilfe” and generous contributions from German communities and firefighting organizations.
The shipment includes essential protective gear such as hose pipes, jackets, trousers, gloves, and helmets – carefully selected to meet operational needs in the field. Most of the equipment was donated and collected in Germany, reflecting strong cross-border solidarity. The materials will support volunteer fire units in Evia, Attica, and Rhodes, helping to maintain safety standards despite funding challenges.
“Support like this makes a real difference. With cuts in humanitarian funding, donations are vital to ensure we can operate safely and continue protecting our communities”, said a volunteer firefighter from Evia.
This delivery demonstrates the impact of donor support in mitigating the effects of reduced humanitarian budgets. Ensuring that local responders have adequate equipment is crucial for community safety. In the coming months, we will continue working with partners to provide additional support, including further equipment donations and training initiatives.
